Heat room by room with a simple and fast connection

PILOTWIRE

PILOTWIRE is a wireless sensor that modernizes radiators by connecting to the pilot wire input, without complex wiring. Connected to our Ewattch gateway via LoRaWAN, it automatically adjusts modes (Comfort, Eco, Frost Protection, etc.) according to occupancy and schedules.

Ideal for renovation projects, it centralizes management, reduces consumption, and ensures compliance with the BACS Decree. A LoRaWAN relay is also available for radiators without a pilot wire.

Features
  • Intelligent multi-mode control

Adjust Comfort, Eco, Frost Protection, or Off modes according to occupancy and schedules.

  • Centralized management in EwattchCloud

Monitoring, schedules, scenarios, and reports accessible from a single web interface.

  • Ultra-fast installation

Direct connection to the existing pilot wire terminal; no additional cabling or radiator modification required.

  • Secure LoRaWAN communication

Long-range coverage and AES 128 encryption for reliable deployment in any type of building.

  • Regulatory compliance

Facilitates achieving Class A BMS as required by the BACS Decree and supports energy reduction plans.

2.Installation and commissioning #

General Overview

The Pilot Wire is a Class C LoRaWAN sensor/actuator powered by the mains (via the electrical network). It can be used in two ways:

  • Direct control of an electric radiator via its pilot wire.
  • Control of an external ON/OFF device, provided that a relay is associated.
Installation and Safety Instructions
  • Electrical safety: ensure that the entire circuit is switched off before handling. Simply removing one wire (such as from a switch) is not sufficient.
  • Water protection: the enclosure is not waterproof and cannot be used in a bathroom.
  • Wiring:
    • Brown → Live (L)
    • Blue → Neutral (N)
    • Black → Pilot wire output (control)
    • The earth wire (green/yellow) must not be connected to the Pilot Wire but to the equipment (e.g., radiator).
  • Mounting: two holes are provided for wall installation. Preferably use an insulated screwdriver. Comply with applicable electrical standards (e.g., NF C15-100).
Operating Modes
1) Control of an electric radiator

It generates six commands to control convectors via the pilot wire:

  • Comfort: follows the thermostat setpoint
  • Eco: setpoint −4°C compared to the requested temperature
  • Frost protection: maintains approximately +5°C
  • Stop: heating off
  • Comfort −1°C: setpoint −1°C
  • Comfort −2°C: setpoint −2°C
2) Control of equipment via external relay

The Pilot Wire does not directly control a relay; it generates a signal (present or absent) to activate/deactivate a relay.

Relay requirements: coil resistance < 40 kΩ, operating voltage < 140 VAC, release voltage > 35 VAC.

Otherwise, insert a 50 kΩ (2 W) resistor in parallel to meet the limit. Finder relays (12 A and 16 A) have been successfully tested.

Radio Propagation

To ensure proper operation, avoid installing the enclosure directly behind a metal element (such as the radiator itself), as this would weaken the LoRa signal.

User Interface (LED / AMR)
  • LED:
    • Green (blinking): until successful network association
    • Red: blinks when AMR (magnetic switch) is activated
    • Orange: blinks 3 times during factory reset
  • AMR (magnetic switch):

Place a magnet near the dedicated area → red LED blinks quickly.

To force re-association (loss of link or errors up to 100 downlinks), pass the magnet 3 consecutive times → green LED blinks (re-association).

For a complete reset (loss of application and LoRa network configurations), pass the magnet 2 times quickly, then a 3rd time for > 7 s → orange LED blinks 3 times. Restart the enclosure.

Configuration on Ewattch Cloud

FILPILOTE does not require any prior configuration by the customer. It is automatically pre-configured by us before shipment. All you need to do is connect your sensors via the Scan to Cloud feature, an intuitive solution that streamlines provisioning in just a few clicks.

3.Data available on Ewattch Cloud #

Once FILPILOTE is integrated into the Ewattch Cloud platform, several data points are automatically accessible for monitoring and control.
In the case of FILPILOTE, the main data point is an output that allows modification of the pilot wire state to control the heating mode.

Available Inputs

No specific inputs are directly transmitted by FILPILOTE. Temperature, occupancy, or other data may come from associated sensors within the same Ewattch Cloud environment.

Available Outputs

Name Description
PILOT_WIRE_MULTISTATE_OUTPUT Multi-state output allowing remote definition of the radiator mode via the pilot wire. Available states correspond to standard commands: Comfort, Eco, Frost Protection, Off, Comfort -1°C, Comfort -2°C.

This output enables precise heating control based on schedules, automated scenarios, or manual commands from Ewattch Cloud.
